FRONTMAN Shane Long is determined to strike the right chords at Cherries and spark a promotion party.

The 34-year-old joined the Dorset outfit on loan from Southampton in the dying moments of the transfer window and made his debut in last week’s 3-2 victory over Birmingham City.

Long, a keen guitarist, was cup tied for the 2-0 victory over Burnley on Tuesday but could be back available to take centre stage for Saturday’s league showdown at Nottingham Forest (12.30pm).

Clips online of the 34-year-old see him playing guitar alongside Robbie Keane in Dublin, performing on a segment on Soccer AM, as well as singing at Saints’ end-of-season awards.

And the Republic of Ireland international insists making music is a way to get away from the intensity of professional football.

Long told afcbTV: “I like my music. I play guitar – it’s a way of forgetting about life for a while I think. Just playing music and singing songs.

“If we get promoted, you might see me on stage and you might not be able to pull the mic off me!”

Long arrives at Cherries having won 85 caps for his country at senior level, scoring 17 goals.

But the Tipperary-born star insists has no intention to wind down his playing career just yet.

“People keep telling me I need to plan for the end. I am 34 now but I don’t feel like I am that age,” he added.

“I feel like I still have a lot to give. I’ve still got my pace and, touch wood, injury-wise I’ve been okay. I’m just focusing on football.

“The last 12 months I probably haven’t played as much as I want, so the legs are fresh and I want to do all I can for this club and play as many games between now and the end of the season.”
