JONATHAN Woodgate said he was not prepared to risk Jack Stacey any longer at Burnley and revealed the full-back was set to have a scan on a thigh problem.

Stacey was brought off at half-time during Cherries’ 2-0 FA Cup victory over the Clarets at Turf Moor, having sustained the injury during the first half.

He had provided the assist for Sam Surridge’s first-half goal in Lancashire, with a pinpoint cross that allowed the striker to tap home from close range.

Stacey was replaced by Chris Mepham at the interval at Burnley, with Cameron Carter-Vickers moving to right-back.

Asked for an update on former Luton-man Stacey, Woodgate told the Daily Echo: “He got a thigh strain, we didn’t want to take any risks.

“Listen, I’m an expert on thigh injuries, let me tell you that. I didn’t want to risk him any longer.

“We will see how it is. Probably get a scan on it – it looks like a thigh strain.”

Cherries were without recognised right-back cover for the cup contest due to Adam Smith being rested from the squad.

Woodgate also revealed Jack Wilshere was “absolutely fine” after being left out the group.

Winger Rodrigo Riquelme was omitted having picked up a groin problem in training.
