CARETAKER boss Jonathan Woodgate insists he would be "foolish" were he not to try and gain some help from Harry Redknapp during his time in charge of Cherries.

Woodgate took the reins at Cherries on a temporary basis last Wednesday, following the sacking of Jason Tindall.

He made the ideal start, guiding his side to a 3-2 win over Birmingham in the Championship on Saturday.

And former Cherries boss and player Redknapp revealed he had been contacted by Woodgate to offer some advice after he took the role.

It is understood the 73-year-old observed some training sessions last week, but has not been involved in coaching or on a matchday and is offering his help on a purely voluntary basis.

Speaking yesterday about his conversations with Redknapp since joining Cherries, Woodgate said: "I’ve spoken to Harry quite a bit to be honest with you.

"He gives that advice, he’s been there and done it. He’s a really good guy I know I can trust, so I’ve spoken to him a few times about it.

"Harry’s someone I can ring and ask advice on different scenarios. Harry’s been there and done it and got great experience in the game.

"So I think I’d be foolish, whilst down here in Bournemouth, not to pick his brains on different matters when he lives probably 10 minutes away from the training ground. I think that would be foolish of me.

"I’m a young manager who also has a bit of experience behind me, but not as much experience as Harry Redknapp, who has been there, done it and managed several clubs, managed Bournemouth for 10 years and has been a top manager."

Woodgate is set to continue in caretaker charge for the trip to Burnley in the FA Cup tomorrow.
