JONATHAN Woodgate has called on other players in Cherries' squad to step up in the absence of Dominic Solanke, describing the striker's injury as a "big blow".

Solanke is still awaiting a full prognosis on how long he could be out for, but he will miss tomorrow's FA Cup trip to Burnley.

Prior to this ankle injury picked up last week, the 23-year-old had played every Championship match for the club this season.

"He's your top goalscorer, he's scored 10 goals this season," Woodgate told the Daily Echo.

"Yes, it's a big blow, but it's down to someone out of the team now to step up and start scoring goals like Dom was doing."

With Shane Long cup-tied for the game at Turf Moor and Joshua King having left the club, that leaves Sam Surridge as the most senior striker available to Woodgate.

Surridge scored against Woodgate's Middlesbrough in the Championship last season, during his time at Swansea.

"I saw Sam and watched him last season when he was on loan at Swansea, where we played against them down there and I really like the player," said Woodgate.

"He’s good. He works hard, he’s got quality, so if he gets his opportunity tomorrow then we’ll see what he’s like."

Surridge has scored four goals in 21 appearances for Cherries this season.
