MANAGER Jason Tindall admitted he would have liked to have seen Frank Lampard given “more time” at Chelsea.

The Cherries boss was speaking after the news the Stamford Bridge side had sacked Lampard on Monday.

The Blues were languishing ninth in the Premier League table, after five defeats in their past eight league matches.

Giving his thoughts on Lampard’s departure, Tindall said: “I think I would have liked to have seen Frank given more time.

“It’s a tough job that he’s gone in there to do – to almost reform a new team, a new squad and I think that does need time, to be able to do that and almost get his points across.

“I do feel really feel for him because I know he’s a good guy that only wants the best for Chelsea and works extremely hard.

“I’ve got no doubt he would have went on to get things right there and to have been a success.

“I suppose (Ole Gunnar) Solskjaer is a good example of that situation where maybe things weren’t going quite as well as what Manchester United fans and people wanted at a certain time.

“But he was given that time to get things right and to get the balance right of his team – now we are seeing the rewards for that.”

Former Derby boss Lampard signed a three-year deal in the summer of 2019 and, in spite of a transfer ban, led Chelsea to the FA Cup final and a fourth-place finish in his first managerial campaign at Stamford Bridge.

With cash to spend ahead of this season, the arrivals of the likes of Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner has failed to translate into improved results.

“In football we know what it’s like,” said Tindall. “It’s a volatile industry and sometimes decisions are made for whatever reason – I’m sure the guys will know what that is and they’ve come to that decision.

“It’s just a shame that a good guy and a good manager like Frank has suffered off the back of it.”
