RISING star stopper Will Dennis insisted “you never stop going” in a bid to make it at a professional club and added: “I’ve just got to keep proving myself.”

The 20-year-old earned his senior Cherries debut in the club’s FA Cup third-round triumph against League Two Oldham at Vitality Stadium earlier this month.

And he could be in line for a second appearance when Jason Tindall’s men host Crawley in the next stage on Tuesday.

Dennis is one of a number of promising goalkeepers to have enhanced their game at Cherries in recent times.

Mark Travers and Aaron Ramsdale have also impressed when featuring for Cherries’ first team, the latter has since returned back to Sheffield United to play in the Premier League.

And while Cherries keeper Travers is currently on loan at Swindon Town, Dennis is looking to keep impressing as the understudy to first-choice Asmir Begovic.

The Hitchin-born keeper told the Daily Echo: “I’ve just got to keep proving myself really and show the gaffer what I can do.

“Obviously, Asmir has been excellent this season and helped me all the way and given me advice and stuff.

“I’ve got to prove myself and if I keep proving myself in training then that’s all I can do and hopefully the manager keeps picking me.”

Dennis first joined up with Cherries in 2016, after being released by Watford.

He has also cut his teeth on loan at the likes of Guernsey, Weymouth and Verwood Town.

“I was at Watford as a youngster and I was there for a good few seasons until I was 16 and they released me and now I’m here and playing in the FA Cup,” said the youngster, when describing his journey to Cherries’ first team setup.

“I was at Luton for a year maybe, if that, but then I went to Watford straightaway after that from eight until 16.

“I had a few trials (after leaving Watford) and it took a little while. But you never stop going.

“My family had a massive part to play in that, grandparents taking me while my parents were at work and, luckily, I got a club at Bournemouth and I’ve been here a while.”

Dennis admitted it was unfortunate not to have his family in the stands for his debut against the Latics earlier this month – but revealed they had been keeping a close eye on his performance.

“Obviously it’s a bit sad that they couldn’t be here, but they’re watching on TV and hopefully they’ll be proud of me,” he added.
