GOALKEEPER Mark Travers has joined Swindon Town on loan until the end of the season.

The young Irishman returned a negative COVID-19 test at Cherries today before heading to Wiltshire to complete the switch to the League One Robins.

The deal includes a 24-hour recall clause, meaning Cherries can get Travers back at any point during the remainder of the season.

At present, the Daily Echo understands there are no deals lined up to bring in a replacement goalkeeper, with academy graduate Will Dennis currently set to be promoted from his role as third choice to provide backup to in-form Asmir Begovic.

Travers burst onto the scene with a man-of-the-match performance on debut in a 1-0 Premier League win over Tottenham at Vitality Stadium in May 2019.

He has since featured a further eight times for the Cherries first team, most recently September’s 2-1 Carabao Cup loss at Manchester City.

The 21-year-old has been a regular in the matchday squad under Jason Tindall, named as an unused substitute on 20 occasions this term.

Maynooth-born Travers has also broke his way into the senior Republic of Ireland squad, earning two caps.

Swindon, managed by John Sheridan, currently sit 23rd in the League One table.

Their previous goalkeeper Matej Kovar has today been recalled by parent club Manchester United.

Former Cherries Brett Pitman and Mathieu Baudry are part of the Robins squad in the third tier.

Travers, who joined Cherries in 2016, previously spent a stint out on loan at non-league Weymouth during the 2017-18 season.
