BOSS Jason Tindall was pleased to see Rodrigo Riquelme provide a "bit of a spark" when he was introduced for his Cherries debut last night.

The young Spaniard came off the bench to replace Arnaut Danjuma in the 84th minute of the contest at Cardiff City Stadium as Cherries preserved their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw.

Riquelme, 20, arrived on loan from Atletico Madrid earlier this month and was an unused substitute for Saturday's goalless stalemate with QPR.

And Tindall was pleased with the midfielder's first brief contribution in a Cherries shirt.

"Really pleased that he came on," the boss told the Daily Echo.

"He’s a great lad, great player. He came on and he gave us that little bit of a spark.

"We were missing that in the time when he came on and he came on and I felt he made a difference in the game.

"So really pleased with him when he came on and looking forward to having him for the remainder of the season."

He added: "I think when you come from another country and you’re so young and it’s the first time that you’ve been away, the Championship as we know is such a unique league with so many different demands on each and every game.

"We’re going to have to build Riquelme’s minutes gradually.

"To give him 10 minutes in what was a tight game at the time, for him to come on and not look out of place and to give us that little bit of a spark was really pleasing."

Riquelme is set to battle the likes of Danjuma and Junior Stanislas for a starting spot, after the pair both made their first starts having recovered from respective injuries.

"It’s great to have two quality players like Arnie and Junior available," said Tindall.

"I felt as the game went on they did very well, tired a little bit towards the end, but considering they’ve been out for a little bit of time, to come back in in a game like this and deliver the kind of performance they did was very pleasing and will leave them in good stead for the future games."
