RYAN Giggs revealed David Brooks was sent back to Cherries from Wales duty due to "get back fit again" after suffering a "knock" in training.

The winger missed last month's Championship clash with Norwich due to illness, with boss Jason Tindall describing him as "30 per cent fit" as he remained an unused substitute for the win over Coventry five days later.

Brooks then linked up with the Wales squad and having not featured against England at Wembley last week, played the final 15 minutes of the 0-0 Nations League draw with Ireland on Sunday.

However, he has now been sent back to Cherries, rather than head off to face Bulgaria tomorrow evening with the rest of Giggs's squad.

Asked why Brooks had left the group, Giggs told Sky Sports: "David came into the camp just feeling a little bit under the weather. So he missed a few days of training early on in the camp, then gradually as the camp went on he got stronger.

"We gave him more training time, he came away from the sports scientists, away from the physios and was joining in with us. So he looked good.

"Unfortunately yesterday he just took a little bit of a knock and with the close proximity to the game, the turnaround was just too close.

"He's not had a couple of weeks where he's played a lot of football, so we felt it was best he went back to Bournemouth to get fit again."
