BOSS Jason Tindall said he thought the world of Young Lion Sam Surridge and added: “He’s a great striker, a great player, a great character.”

Cherries academy graduate Surridge could once again represent his country this evening, when England under-21s take on Turkey in a Euro qualifier at Molineux (7.30pm).

The promising striker started last week’s 3-3 draw with Andorra, despite not being named in Aidy Boothroyd’s original squad for the international fixtures.

But Tindall insists whatever the occasion, he knows what he will get when Surridge is named on the team sheet.

He told the Daily Echo: “I think the world of Sam. He’s a great striker, a great player, a great character.

“You know what you’re going to get whenever you pick him and whenever he’s on the training ground.

“To have someone of Sam’s quality within the (Cherries) squad is really good for us.

“I’ve got no doubts that whenever Sam is selected to play or to come onto the pitch that he’ll give his all for the football club.”

Slough-born Surridge got off the mark for the campaign by netting against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup last month.

He also made his first league start for Cherries in a 3-1 Championship victory over Coventry last time out.

In a recent interview with the Daily Echo, the 22-year-old said: “I am coming back to Bournemouth for the first time probably knowing I can be a starter.”

Asked whether that was the sort of comment he liked to hear from his strikers, the Cherries boss replied: “I want every player to feel that way, whether they are starting games or they’re not – to believe they should be.

“When they get the opportunity, it’s about taking it.

“One thing about Sam – he will always work his socks off for the team. That’s the same, day-to-day on the training ground and in games.

“When given the opportunity, am I surprised by the performance of Sam Surridge or how he plays? No, because I have seen that for such a long time now.

“Certainly in my time as manager he has delivered performances on a day-to-day basis and it’s great to see him carry that into games.”
