POSITIVE winger Rodrigo Riquelme is on a mission to be “one of the best” and predicted “very good things together” at Cherries.

The pacey Spaniard last week joined the club on a season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid, with the option for Cherries to make the deal permanent next summer.

Riquelme did not receive international clearance in time to feature in last Friday’s 3-1 victory over Coventry, instead taking a watching brief at St Andrew’s.

He is expected to be available when the Dorset club host Queens Park Rangers on October 17 however, the first game of a “new adventure” for the 20-year-old.

Riquelme, who came recommended to boss Jason Tindall by England full-back and Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, told afcbTV: “Playing at this club is very important for me.

“I am going to give all of my best. We are going to do good things together.

“I think all players want to improve, to be one of the best maybe one day. That’s what I want.

“I think this club is going to help me to be a very, very good player – and maybe in the future one of the best, of course.

“I’m a player who loves football. I like to improve, to make something new, and be happy with playing football.”

Riquelme had been training with fellow Championship side Reading over the past month, before Cherries swooped to complete a deal for the Madrid-born youngster.

And venturing to England to ply his trade brought back some early memories for the winger.

Asked if he had visited the country before, Riquelme said: “I went with my school.

“We went to see the Shakespeare House and then we visited the London Eye and Big Ben.

“This trip, this new adventure, brings me a lot of memories from when I was a kid and it’s very good.

“The weather is different! And the food is not too bad, it’s okay.”

Speaking about his first meetings with manager Tindall, Riquelme said: “We were eating together. He said he is very happy with me, he is a very good person.

“We have to work on bits to help with this club, to go to the Premier League.”
