SAM Surridge has been called into the England under-21s squad for their two upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Aidy Boothroyd's side head to Andorra on Wednesday, before hosting Turkey at Molineux on Tuesday, October 13.

Surridge, 22, did not make the initial squad, but has been drafted in following the withdrawal of Sheffield United striker Rhian Brewster.

Japhet Tanganga, Tariq Lamptey and Reiss Nelson have also withdrawn from duty with Man Utd's Brandon Williams and Liverpool defender Rhys Williams called up to form a 22-man squad.

Surridge has two caps for England under-21s, scoring on his debut against Slovenia in November last year.

Discussing his involvement in the national team set-up earlier in the year, Surridge told the Daily Echo: "If you’re playing games at my age and doing well you’re going to get noticed. It was nice going away and doing that and it was good for my family. I think my dad was more surprised (about the call-up) than anyone."

Asked how closely the under-21s work alongside Gareth Southgate's first team at St George's Park, Surridge added: "You see them a couple of times, you see them in the gym and that and I saw Cal (Wilson) there and Tyrone Mings. Those two I knew.

"But it’s quite a good click up there and there’s some good players in the 21s as well. So it was good to kind of see where I was at.

"We’re all young players and it’s a good time to be a young English player."

Surridge has played in five of Cherries' six games so far this season, including his first league start for the club in Friday night's win against Coventry.

His only goal so far this term came in the Carabao Cup defeat at Manchester City.
