BOSS Jason Tindall revealed how a recommendation from England star Kieran Trippier helped Cherries seal a move for Spanish youngster Rodrigo Riquelme.

The 20-year-old winger signed on a season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid on Thursday – the current club of former Burnley and Spurs star Trippier.

And Tindall, who worked with Trippier during his time with Eddie Howe at Turf Moor, said the defender “couldn’t speak highly enough” of youngster Riquelme.

The Cherries boss told afcbTV: “Roro coming in from Atletico Madrid and I’m close friends with Kieran Trippier, who is obviously there now.

“I spoke to him quite a few times when we knew we liked him and wanted to sign him.

“He couldn’t speak highly enough of him.”

Manager Tindall admitted it was “frustrating” Riquelme was unable to feature against Coventry on Friday – but believes the youngster would benefit from having a watching brief.

Riquelme failed to gain international clearance for the Dorset club’s 3-1 victory at St Andrew’s.

His omission, as well as Joshua King dropping out after suffering migraine, meant Cherries only named six substitutes for the clash with the Sky Blues.

Tindall told the Daily Echo: “Unfortunately for Roro, his international clearance didn’t come through on time but he was here.

“He saw the guys play and got maybe an idea of what the league is like and how we play as a team, so I’m sure it would have been a good experience for him.”

The Cherries manager was able to recall David Brooks to his squad in the midlands after he had missed out against Norwich due to illness.

But despite Brooks making himself available for selection, Tindall made the call not to propel him back into match action, as he remained an unused substitute.

He added: “It was frustrating. We had a lot of attacking players missing.

“David Brooks was sitting on the bench having only trained half a session – he was still really under the weather and was only 30 or 40 per cent fit.”
