EAST Dorset full back Jack Skirrow kept cool to slot over a last-gasp penalty as they beat Old Freemans 16-13 to move into the EDF Energy Junior Vase fifth round.

Fly-half James Dean had dropped a goal to level the score at 13-13 late in the second half before Skirrow propelled East Dorset into the last 64 before an absorbing tie reached extra time.

Dean had propelled the Hampshire outfit 10-0 ahead in the first half with a try, conversion and penalty before Old Freemans, of Surrey Division One, hit back with a converted try and two penalties to lead 13-10.

East Dorset host Sandown and Shanklin in the fifth round on December 8 after they beat East Grinstead 25-10 at home.

Hampshire One leaders Ellingham and Ringwood crashed out of the Vase 20-13 at home to bottom-of-the-table Alton. The Es led 10-0 inside 10 minutes with a Rob Saltrick try converted by Andy Weeks, and a Weeks penalty.

But Alton bounced back to lead 13-10 before Weeks levelled with a second half penalty. The visitors scored the winning try seven minutes from time.

Es coach Steve Anderson said: "We got what we deserved for not giving Alton the respect they deserved."

Fordingbridge lost 34-11 at home to Crawley in another fourth round tie.

Verwood beat Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew 34-15 at home in the Dorset and Wiltshire Plate with tries from Richard Cooker (two), Charlie Cockram (two) and Matt Moore. Paul McGuffie added three conversions and one penalty.
