PIRATES duo Danny King and Steve Worrall kicked off the 2020 campaign in fine style after claiming first and second respectively the Ben Fund Bonanza at Scunthorpe.

Poole skipper King dropped just two points from his opening five rides to seal his spot in the final of the British curtain raiser – before going on to seal the spoils.

Worrall, who recorded 12 points from his opening five rides, followed the Poole number one home to earn second in the finale – ahead of Josh Auty and Lewis Kerr.

King said: “No matter what you ride in the winter you always think you’re fast, but you can’t compare it until you go from the tapes with three other guys. It was great fun to be able to do it particularly for such a great thing like the Ben Fund.

“We were able to raise some money for the Ben Fund which is exactly why we do meetings like this and it is great to see lot of supporters still turned up despite the current situation in the UK and aboard.

“We as riders will continue to always do our bit for the Benevolent Fund because without this there are some riders who wouldn’t be able to get through it and they get my full support, that’s for sure.”
