MIDFIELDER Philip Billing believes Cherries should have taken all three points after being held at home by Marcos Alonso’s late leveller against Chelsea.

Eddie Howe’s men looked set to record their third successive home Premier League victory after goals from Jefferson Lerma and Joshua King had put them 2-1 up against the former European champions.

But Spanish wing-back Alonso popped up with a vital header five minutes from time after home keeper Aaron Ramsdale had saved Pedro’s initial shot.

It was former Bolton man Alonso’s second of the afternoon to earn a 2-2 draw for Frank Lampard’s troops.

Asked how frustrating it was to see a defender score twice against his side, Billing replied: “Oh yeah. When I saw Alonso for the second I was like ‘ah man’. I couldn’t really believe it to be honest.

“He’s a goalscoring defender to be fair. He’s done it a few times, not only this season but since he came to Chelsea.

“If he had a hat-trick then I wouldn’t have accepted that. I would have had a go at someone.

“It’s just a tough one to take. The way it bounced back to him, obviously it was a good header but it was just unlucky. We just have to keep going and stay positive.”

He added: “I think we’ve conceded too many sloppy goals, easy goals for the opposition.

“Games like this is where we really have to take the three points.

“We had chances, they had chances and I think at the end we take the one point – but it should have been three.”

Cherries dropped deeper in a bid to keep their goal advantage in the latter stages. Danish star Billing insisted his side did everything they could to dig in for victory.

“Obviously we were all knackered. We had been chasing the ball, pressing and, to be fair, I didn’t have much left in the tank,” he added.

“I don’t think anybody did. Everybody gave everything they could and I think the second goal was a bit lucky as well.”

Copenhagen-born Billing was also left to rue opportunities he had early on against the Stamford Bridge side.

“Obviously myself, I had two chances in the first half,” he said.

“I should have scored a goal as well.

“I just saw the pace of the ball from Stace (Jack Stacey) and just had to put my foot on it. Obviously it ended up going straight at (Willy) Caballero.

“It’s annoying but I thought we kept in the game and should have had the whole three points.”
