WORLD champion Peter Wright proved too much for Scott Mitchell as the Dorset star suffered defeat in the third round of PDC Players Championship 5 in Wigan.

Wright sealed a 6-1 success over Scotty Dog, averaging 106.6 against the Bransgore star on his way to winning the whole event in dominant fashion.

Snakebite averaged more than 100 in all but one of his matches to claim the £10,000 prize at the tournament.

He took out 170 to beat fellow Premier League competitor Gerwyn Price 8-6 in the final.

Mitchell had reached the last 32 of the tournament after two victories led him to play Wright on Saturday.

He beat Ryan Murray 6-3 before triumphing with the same score line against Scotland’s John Henderson.

On Sunday, Mitchell overcame James Wilson 6-3 in his opening encounter in PDC Players Championship 6, before a 6-4 triumph in the last 64 against Joe Cullen.

And after once again plotting his path to the last 32, the Dorset thrower came unstuck 6-5 against veteran Steve Beaton.

Beaton, known as the Bronzed Adonis, took the final leg with the throw to seal the spoils.

Mitchell earned £2,000 in prize money across the weekend.
