MLS outfit Chicago Fire have announced Ben Donachie’s switch from Cherries to become their new director of performance.
Donachie was the Dorset club’s lead strength and conditioning coach, having first arrived at Vitality Stadium as a first team sports scientist in October 2012.
But having been offered the chance to move Stateside, the Bournemouth University graduate admitted he cannot wait to get started at his new club.
He told Chicago Fire’s website: “After speaking with Georg (Heitz, sporting director) and Raphael (Wicky, head coach), it didn’t take long for me to decide that I wanted to come on board.
“Their vision for this incredible club is very motivating and it’s an exciting time to join the Fire. I can’t wait to get started.”
Donachie is set to join the Soldier Field side upon receipt of his work visa.
“Ben has worked with players at the highest level in world football,” said Heitz.
“His expertise in sports performance will play an important role in the development of our first team and academy players.
“We look forward to having him join our technical staff. We welcome Ben and his family to Chicago.”
The Fire kick off their 2020 season on Sunday, March 1, against defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders.
