NATHAN Ake admitted he had seen similarities between Eddie Howe and new Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

Ake is set to be part of Howe’s line-up to take on the Spurs supremo in his first home league game in charge of the north London outfit.

And the Dutch defender insisted the Portuguese boss “makes you want to fight for everything”.

Quizzed on how the managers compared, Ake told the Daily Echo: “Quite similar. Eddie is also a winner.

“He shows that in training every time, he wants to make us better players and is trying to make us win things.

“They are similar in that perspective.”

Ake was given his Champions’ League debut at Chelsea under Mourinho in 2014, coming on for the final 30 minutes of a 6-0 home win over Maribor.

“I like him (Mourinho) a lot,” said Ake.

“I worked with him for around two years or something like that.

“He is a manager who makes to want you fight for everything. Makes you want to win things and I’m sure he wants to do that at Tottenham.

“In training, he wants 100 per cent out of you. He wants that fighting spirit and I think he brings that over to everyone in training and on the pitch.

“You always learn from those kind of managers. To be around him at that age was very good.”

As well as coming up against his former boss, Ake is also poised to have the task of marking England frontman Harry Kane.

The 2018 World Cup golden boot winner has 23 goals in as many games for club and country this season.

He also became the fastest player to reach 20 Champions League goals in history, having struck twice in a 4-2 win over Olympiakos on Tuesday.

“He is one of the best strikers in the world,” said Ake, when asked what it was like to face off against Kane.

“I think that’s obvious with the way he has been performing over the past four or five years. He is among the top, top players.”
