DORSET snooker amateur David O’Callaghan enjoyed a successful first Cuestars outing for the best part of two years as he collected the winner’s trophy in the third leg of the Under-21 Silver Tour at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.
O’Callaghan ended Londoner Lee Whaley’s hopes of a hat-trick of tournament wins, overcoming the rankings leader 2-1 in the final.
The 20-year-old was beaten by Owen Jenkins (Havant) and Mason Wilson (Basingstoke) in his five-man round-robin group, but secured a spot in the knockout round as one of the two best third-placed players.
He then edged last season’s Bronze Tour championship play-off winner John Donovan (London) 2-1 and last season’s Silver Tour championship play-off winner Samuel Laxton (Portsmouth) 2-0 before beating Whaley (Kings Cross) 2-1 in the final.
Frames Sports Bar in Coulsdon hosts the fourth leg of 10 on Sunday.
