MATTY Holmes revealed he is always there to help his successor at Wimborne Town – younger brother Danny.

Matty left his role as Magpies boss last month, becoming the club’s new community and academy director of football with his former assistant Danny Holmes taking the reins of the first-team.

Wimborne made a strong start under his tenure including wins over Poole Town and Weston-super-Mare as well as an impressive draw with title-chasing Truro City. But Magpies then suffered a run of four straight defeats before winning 2-1 against Dorchester on Tuesday.

Speaking to Radio Wimborne, Matty Holmes said: “I speak to Danny every week, offering any advice. He’s my younger brother, and I want him to do really, really well in the role. He started off great.

“Even when I was in the role, we had these blips when we went three or four games on a run without a win, but against Dorchester there was real effort from the lads.”

He added: “What you’ll find with us both is that we’re very honest and we want what is best for the football club.

“You want to win games, and you put your heart on your sleeve and play as well as you can for the club.”
