BOSS Matt Ford confirmed Pirates’ SGB Premiership semi-final first leg against Ipswich would not go ahead as planned tomorrow, following an early decision to postpone due to weather.

According to the met office, heavy rain is set to hit Poole from 3pm onwards, making chances of staging the meeting less than promising.

Therefore, Pirates have made the call to postpone the battle against the Witches “with both the supporters and broadcaster BT Sport in mind”.

Promoter Ford told the club website: “The forecast does not look good at all and we’ve tried to be sympathetic to both the fans and BT Sport by calling it off early.

“Putting live speedway on TV is costly, as is travel for supporters, so we felt it best to make an early call, as frustrating as it is.”

Pirates picked Ipswich as their play-off semi-final opposition after topping the league with victory at King’s Lynn last week.

The first leg will now take place at Wimborne Road on Thursday (7.30pm), with the second leg scheduled for Foxhall on Saturday.
