MIDFIELDER Philip Billing has this morning passed a medical with Cherries ahead of a £15million move from Huddersfield, the Daily Echo understands.

Billing joined the Terriers on a youth contract from Danish side Esbjerg in 2013 and has since gone on to make 91 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit.

He was part of the Huddersfield side who won promotion from the Championship in 2017 and has featured 43 times in the top flight.

Should the move be finalised, 23-year-old Billing would be Cherries’ third new recruit of the summer, joining Lloyd Kelly and Jack Stacey as fresh faces in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Manager Howe’s policy is not to talk about signings until deals have been completed but he did insist Cherries had been “actively looking in the market”.

Asked about Billing following Saturday’s 3-1 friendly win over Championship Brentford, Howe said: “I have nothing to say until the deals are done, completed and signed.

“We are actively looking in the market, so we will wait and see.

“We are looking in a couple of positions, to be honest. I think we are slightly stretched in a couple of positions.”

Assessing the transfer market in general this summer, the Cherries boss added: “I think most transfer windows seem to go the same way.

“They get harder to attract and sign good players. They are always a valuable commodity and clubs are very reluctant to lose good players.

“To get players that make us better is also very difficult, we are fighting and competing to do that. Hopefully by the end of the window we will be happy with what we’ve done.”

He added: “The type of player we want to sign, I don’t think that’s changed either.

“There is always a mix but predominantly young, with really good profiles to coach and improve. I think that has served us well in the past.

“We will wait and see in terms of outgoings. I am more concerned by incomings at the minute.”

Goals from Jordon Ibe, Dominic Solanke and Sam Surridge earned Cherries victory over the Bees.

Assessing that contest, Howe told the afcbTV: “It was a tough day, a tough game.

“I think Brentford were a very good team, played an entertaining brand of football and I thought it was a really good game of football from both teams.

“We played very well in spells during the game, scored some good goals so I was very pleased.”
