NIKOLAJ Busk Jakobsen is set for surgery later today after being taken ill at Wimborne Road last night.

The Pirates reserve rider missed both recent clashes against Belle Vue due to illness and returned to take part in the 49-41 win against King's Lynn Stars yesterday.

He totalled 3+1 points on the night before the meeting was forced into a lengthy delay before heat 11 as paramedics were called to treat Busk Jakobsen after he felt unwell in the pits.

And co-promoter Danny Ford gave an update on the Dane's condition.

He told the Daily Echo: "Nikolaj booked a flight home this morning.

"He went to the doctors and they rushed him to hospital."

Busk Jacobsen is now expected to have surgery in the Danish town of Kolding to treat a problem with his appendix.

Poole are already without the injured trio Nico Covatti, Richie Worrall and Brady Kurtz.

Discussing the win over King's Lynn, a fifth victory in a row, Ford said: "It's been amazing how we've managed to string these results together with all the injury problems we've had.

"Those could have been even worse as Josh Grajczonek was lucky to walk away from a, shall we say, controversial move by Craig Cook in heat 15 last night.

"Our luck when it comes to injuries needs to change. We've had our share already, so hopefully that will be it now."
