LLOYD Kelly made his first appearance at the European Under-21 Championship as England drew 3-3 with Croatia.

The Cherries defender, 20, played the full 90 minutes at left-back, earning a fourth cap for the side in the process, but could not tighten up the leaky England defence.

Already out of the tournament following 2-1 and 4-2 losses against France and Romania respectively, Aidy Boothroyd's side took the lead in San Marino when Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson scored from the penalty spot having been tripped in the box.

Croatia danger man Josip Brekalo equalised before the break, but England got themselves back in front shortly after the restart through Leicester's James Maddison.

Croatia, who also came into the game with two defeats from two, levelled up again after Kelly's sloppy pass gifted them an opportunity which was tucked away by Nikola Vlasic.

Jonjoe Kenny put England ahead for a third time, however the spoils were shared when Brekalo bagged his second with eight minutes to play.

Kelly's Cherries team-mate Dominic Solanke was an unused substitute.

England finished a disappointing third in Group C and boss Boothroyd said: "It is the story of the tournament for us really, wonderful attacking play but basic, fundamental defensive errors with poor passes and decisions.

"When you look at the calibre of the players who are making the mistakes it does not make sense.

"The teams that we've played against are streetwise and we're not.

"We need to get that into our game all the way through our age groups."

Elsewhere, Jefferson Lerma and Colombia learned their quarter-final Copa America opponents following the culmination of the group stage.

Having topped their group with three wins from three, Colombia will now take on Group C runners-up Chile in Sao Paulo on Saturday (12am UK time).
