YOUNGSTER Jamie Stewart’s sublime knock proved vital for Martinstown as Christchurch fell to their fourth Dorset Premier League defeat of the campaign.

Stewart struck an unbeaten 82 at Hurn Bridge, condemning the hosts to an 88-run reverse.

Having been asked to bowl first, Christchurch appeared to have the west Dorset side in trouble, before Stewart arrived at number eight to propel the Martinstown total to 201 all out.

Wickets were shared among the hosts’ attack with Liam Bowater (2-26), Will Marsh (2-22), Tom Marsh (2-31), Warren Bennet (2-50) and Nick Marsh (2-42) all striking.

But Christchurch struggled with the bat in reply and slumped to a modest 113 all out from 37 overs.

Only Bowater (25), Ben Francis (16), James McMurray (13) and Gareth Williams (14) reached double figures for the hosts.

Defeat left Christchurch fourth in the table, with 109 points from eight games. They make the trip to Wimborne on Saturday.
