THE journey across the Severn Bridge proved no barrier for Poole Comets as they chalked up their seventh straight South West League success with a 135-113 win over Newport.

Comets welcomed back Greg Gluchowski for his first match of the season and the Polish international showed he had remembered the fastest way around the race track with an 18-point return. Gluchowski received great support from Matt Mildon and Ben Mould but it was the Poole juniors who again caught the eye for team manager Collin Sutton's side.

Ferose Langoo showed some tremendous form with two race wins and two second places, with Josh Nottle and Kenzie Bennett grabbing vital points every time they went on track. However, Nathan Goulden was not so lucky, withdrawing from the meeting after taking a heavy fall in his third ride.

Reflecting on another victory for the team, Sutton said: “Another outstanding performance from the team.

“It was great to have Greg Gluchowski back in the side and Matt Mildon showed his undoubted ability to score points when needed.

“But it was our juniors who really helped win this match with Langoo, Nottle and Bennett scoring valuable points throughout the match.”

Comets dominated the match from the moment Mildon romped home in the opening race and the visitors built a 10-point lead after six races. Three more heat wins followed before Macie Schmidt and Bennett raced home for another maximum to give them a 58-42 lead at the half-way mark.

The second half of the meeting saw Poole put a stranglehold on the match with a Comets rider taking the chequered flag in 10 of the 15 races.

When Nottle and Bennett romped home in heat 19 Comets really were in seventh heaven.
