JEFFERSON Lerma helped Colombia to an impressive Copa America victory over Argentina.

The Cherries midfielder started the game from the bench but was introduced midway through the second half in place of former Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado and he made a big impact in Salvador.

The Group B clash was locked at 0-0 until the 71st minute when Club America forward Roger Martinez cut in from the left and smashed in past goalkeeper Franco Armani.

And the win was sealed with just four minutes of regular time remaining as Lerma broke down the left wing and fired a fierce ball across goal which was stabbed home from close range by Duvan Zapata.

Lerma, who made 43 fouls and picked up 12 bookings in his debut Premier League season with Cherries, was also handed a yellow card late on for a clash with superstar Lionel Messi.

Argentina are seeking to reach a third straight Copa America final and this victory is the first time Colombia have toppled their South American rivals in 12 years.

Lerma will be looking to add to his 12 Colombia caps in Wednesday's clash against Qatar in Sao Paulo.
