POOLE Comets extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 142-105 win over Exeter Aces at the Harbourside Park raceway.

Despite missing three of their top riders, Poole were still too good for their visitors in the hotly-contested South West league match.

Comets welcomed back Alan Nation to the side for the first time in 15 years and he quickly showed he had lost none of his old magic, winning two races.

Poole team manager Colin Sutton also took the opportunity to track four of the Comets' top juniors and the decision paid off.

Nathan Goulden ended the night unbeaten by an opponent, finishing the match with an 18-point haul, while fellow youngsters Josh Nottle, Kenzie Bennett and Feroze Langoo all contributed.

Sutton said: "It was a great all-round team performance with some top class racing.

"It was pleasing to see our younger riders gaining valuable experience in team racing.

"The new league format is certainly benefitting riders like Kenzie Bennett, Nathan Goulden, Ferose Langoo and Josh Nottle, which can only be good for the future."

Poole trailed 7-3 after a hard fought opening race, which left Comets' Matt Mildon sprawled on the track.

But they hit back straightaway in the next race when Wil Bristowe and Aaron Smith raced home to level the scores at 10-10.

Comets looked to take control of the match with three consecutive heat wins, but Exeter kept their hopes alive with a heat 10 maximum to cut the home side's lead to just three points at the halfway mark.

However, the second half belonged to Poole as they pulled clear of the Aces.

Comets ran in seven maximum scores to put the match out of Exeter's reach with Bristowe, Smith and Fraser Garnett all unbeaten by an opponent, with Mildon and Ben Donahue providing excellent support.

Poole's winning run now stretches back over two months with victories over Newport, Exeter twice, Coventry, Horspath and Leicester since a narrow Charity Shield defeat at Coventry on April 7.

Sutton's men are due back in action on Sunday, travelling to Newport in the league.

Comets: Wil Bristowe 19, Fraser Garnett 18, Nathan Goulden 18, Aaron Smith 17, Matt Mildon 17, Ben Donahue 13, Kenzie Bennett 10, Jay Briggs 9, Alan Nation 8, Feroze Langoo 7, Josh Nottle 6.
