BOURNEMOUTH boxer Jake Best admits he has no fears about taking the underdog tag again – and believes his fresh outlook can set him up for success.

Best is set to take on unbeaten talent James Moorcroft at Bolton Whites Hotel on Saturday.

The 34-year-old has completed a gruelling training and diet regime to make the 69.85kg weight limit for the super-welterweight clash, alongside preparations for two intense charity challenges in the next few weeks.

However, he comes into the bout with confidence after impressive wins on the road against Paul Ducie and Owen Duffy in 2018.

Best told the Daily Echo: “It is a step up again and I have completely changed my attitude.

“Boxing to me is a hobby but if I do something, I try to do it to the best of my ability.

“I am treating boxing like the challenges I have done in the past and the ones I have coming up. They have to test me. If I am going to fight, win or lose, I want to think I have challenged myself in the fight and in the build up.

“He (Moorcroft) is a 10-0 prospect and ranked 16th in Britain, so I am going up there as the complete underdog but it was the same in my last fight in Watford (against Duffy).

“Everyone ruled me out and gave me no chance but then I beat him. I hope I can rise to the occasion and give it my all.”

Victory against Moorcroft could propel Best towards a title bout. And while he would relish the opportunity, he insisted it would not be the be-all and end-all.

“I would love a title shot so I can look back and say I had a fight for this title but that is not the reason I am in boxing now,” said Best.

“If someone who wasn’t as good had a title and they offered me someone better without a title I would still probably fight the better opponent.

“But, of course, if this does lead to an opportunity for a title it is something I would love to do and I would give it my all to win.

“If I pull this off that could be the next thing that is offered.”
