CHERRIES star David Brooks has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Wales international Brooks arrived at Vitality Stadium in the summer from Sheffield United for a fee of around £10million and has impressed in his first season in the top flight. scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

Brooks, 21, has been shortlisted for the prize alongside Manchester City duo Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, Liverpool and England full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and West Ham starlet Declan Rice.

To be eligible for the award, players must be 23 or under at the beginning of the season. The current holder is German winger Leroy Sane while previous winners include Paul Gascoigne, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The ceremony takes place at London's Grosvenor House on Sunday, April 28.
