AUSSIE charger Jack Holder signalled his desire to claim the SGB Premiership crown on his return to the fold with Pirates.

The 23-year-old sealed his comeback to Wimborne Road for the 2019 campaign in December, coming in on a 7.39 average to assume the number one spot.

Holder spent 2017 with Pirates before flourishing in a switch to Somerset during the previous campaign.

His season with the Rebels was ended abruptly after a crash with close friend Brady Kurtz in the second leg of the SGB Premiership play-off semi-final - against Pirates at Wimborne Road in October.

And having watched Poole prevail to lift the 2018 crown, Holder admitted he had been eager to secure a league title with his parent club.

The Poole asset is set to line up in a challenge match for Pirates at Somerset tomorrow (7.30pm).

Quizzed on once again donning the skull and crossbones, Holder told the Daily Echo: “It’s good to be back having had a year off, which was probably good for me.

“To come back as number one is a massive achievement for myself. If I can keep it for the whole season it’s great for me but if someone else is going good in the team and takes it off me, then good on them.

“It’s just a number on your back – it’s a team effort. No matter what number I ride at I’m going to give 100 per cent. All I want is that trophy!

“It was a bit of a bummer not to be a part of it (last season).

“I haven’t won a league trophy yet in the British league, or any league, so it would be awesome to be the number one and get the trophy at the same time.

“It’s everyone’s dream to get a trophy for their club. I haven’t quite done that yet but if I could do it to repay the faith of the fans who pay to come and watch us, it would be great to do that for them.”

The former Australian under-21 champion overcame an injury scare sustained in Poland last month, after being involved in a three-man spill during Torun’s challenge match against Rybnik.

Holder is set to spearhead a Pirates line-up who will take to the track for the first time this season at Oak Tree Arena.

Looking ahead to the clash with the Rebels, who will compete in SGB Championship this season, the Sydneysider said: “I didn’t really know they were dropping down but for whatever reason they did. It will be good to go back there, it’s local challenge match and hopefully I can do well.”

Nico Covatti, who is due to represent both clubs this year, will feature for the Rebels in the fixture. Youngster Anders Rowe will ride for Poole.
