CHERRIES keeper Mark Travers vowed to take Republic of Ireland senior squad selection in his stride and admitted: “I’m buzzing to be called up.”

The 19-year-old stopper has been included in the full national squad for the first time and could feature in a European qualifier against Gibraltar tomorrow (5pm).

Despite not yet playing a senior game for Eddie Howe’s men at club level, the former Lucan United and Cherry Orchard youngster has this week been working alongside fellow stoppers Keiren Westwood and Darren Randolph.

Travers told the Irish Mirror: “I’m buzzing to be called up. At the start of the season, I was just hoping to get into the under-21s.

“This is a real bonus for me. Mick (McCarthy) hasn’t explained why I’ve been called in.

“I’m just going to try to take the opportunity and impress in training.

“Most people just say to be yourself, don’t change in training, keep doing what I have been doing and enjoy it, take the opportunity to impress the coaching staff.

“I feel quite laid back as well so I try to take it in my stride and hopefully it all goes well.”

As well as Gibraltar, the likes of Switzerland, Denmark and Georgia are in Ireland’s European qualifying group.
