Eddie Howe wants Dominic Solanke to 'follow in the same path' as Callum Wilson and Joshua King

Bought from Liverpool in January for a fee understood to be around £17.5million, the Under-20 World Cup winner is set to head back to Anfield with Cherries tomorrow (3pm).

Solanke got his first taste of action for the Dorset club when he played 62 minutes of the 2-0 defeat at Cardiff last time out.

Wilson and King, signed at the ages of 22 and 23 respectively, have gone on to be Cherries’ top-two scorers in the Premier League – recording 67 goals between them.

And Howe believes England international Solanke, 21, can be moulded into another lethal attacking asset.

He told the Daily Echo: “To work with young, talented players is something which really excites me because you get a chance to imprint your ability to coach and your ideas for their game and expand that.

“They don’t necessarily have the mental limitations an older player may have, so really you are working with a player who is mouldable, adaptable and you can take their game in various ways.

“That’s what we have always tried to do with any player we have.

“If you look at the ages we got Callum and Joshua. They have gone on to do some great things for this club in the Premier League. Hopefully Dominic will follow in the same path.

“I have seen a really determined, hard-working player in a very short time of working with him.

“He is quite quiet in and around the training ground but focused on his work and really wants to improve to try to reach the top.

“We are here to try to help him do that. It will be a joint effort to get the very best out of himself.

“He has made a good start, fitted in well to the group and our style of play and I think that’s really important.

“We are not asking him to do anything he can’t do. We play to his strengths, so I think it will be interesting to see how he develops at this point.”

Solanke played 27 times for Liverpool in all competitions, his only goal came in the Premier League against Brighton last season.

He did not feature for Jurgen Klopp’s men in the league this campaign.

Looking ahead to facing up against the striker’s former employers, Howe added: “I think it’s always nice when you go back to somewhere that you’ve been and have good memories of that place. I am sure it will be a nice moment for him.

“I am sure he is very grateful for Liverpool and the part they played in his development and journey he has been on to get to this point.”

On-loan full-back Nathaniel Clyne will not be able to face up against his parent club on Merseyside.
