SWANAGE-based Ricky King enjoyed a run to the last 64 at the Professional Darts Corporation’s UK Qualifying School – before being stopped by a former world number one.
On day three in Wigan, King beat Chas Barstow 5-3 and Mark Cullen 5-4 to set up a meeting with 2005 World Matchplay champion Colin Lloyd.
But ‘Jaws’ – a former World Championship semi-finalist – had too much bite for King, battling back from 4-3 down to edge a 5-4 win.
That same day, King’s fellow Swanage Premier League member Colin Littlecott beat Ashley Holgate 5-3 before losing to William Borland, who averaged 103.
Littlecott suffered defeat in his first match on day one, being sunk 5-2 by Nick Fullwell.
King had whitewashed Aidan Campbell and Ross Rimmer but was then beaten 5-0 by Harry Ward, who went on to earn a tour card.
On day two, King bowed out 5-4 to David Cameron, who made the last 16 at the BDO World Championship earlier this month. Littlecott succumbed 5-2 to Dave Askew.
The duo lost their first matches on day four, King going out to Richie Howson (5-4) and Littlecott losing to Stuart Kellett (5-3).
In the Swanage Premier League, a 701 knockout was staged. Graham Churchill and David Elm reached the final, with Johnny Powell and Chris Martin making the plate final.
