GOALS from Callum Wilson and Joshua King sent Cherries to their first victory of 2019 with a 2-0 home win over West Ham.

England star Wilson unleashed a devastating strike from 20 yards which flew into the top corner eight minutes into the second half to open the scoring.

And King converted a second from close range late on to cap off a clinical display from the hosts.

Victory earned Eddie Howe’s men a league double over the Hammers this campaign.

The surprise team news for Cherries came in goal as Artur Boruc was recalled in place of Asmir Begovic, who dropped to the bench.

The Polish stopper’s previous Premier League start came at Burnley in May 2017 – 617 days previously.

He made his 450th senior career appearance.

Having returned to training this week following a hamstring problem, frontman Wilson was back in Eddie Howe’s starting XI in place of Junior Stanislas.

With Marko Arnautovic out of the West Ham squad and speculation surrounding his future, Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini drafted in Andy Carroll to lead the line.

Cherries could have been a goal up inside eight minutes. Classy work from King allowed him to slip away from his marker and find David Brooks.

The Wales international’s deft chip found Wilson, whose return delivery to the back post was headed wide unchallenged by Brooks.

The hosts continued to threaten. King’s through ball was steered wide by Jefferson Lerma before the Colombian was flagged offside in what was a tight call.

Target man Carroll, who had earlier clattered Steve Cook, then picked up a caution after barging into Ryan Fraser in an attempt to win a loose ball.

On 21 minutes, Cherries thought they had opened the scoring.

After a slick corner routine, Fraser’s menacing cross to the back post was turned in by Ake, only for referee Simon Hooper to disallow the goal for offside. Wilson was judged to have been interfering with play.

At the other end, West Ham spurned their first opportunity of the contest. Former Manchester City man Samir Nasri struck wide after Nathan Ake could only clear to the edge of the box.

Visiting skipper Mark Noble then saw his strike charged down by Brooks before Declan Rice, fresh off his goal against Arsenal last time out, blazed well over the bar.

A Fraser free-kick was headed in by Cook for the winner when the sides met at London Stadium in August – and the pair almost combined again early in the second half.

The Scotland international’s teasing set-piece delivery found former Brighton man Cook, who forced a full-stretch save from goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Moments later, Carroll was guilty of spurning a golden chance at the other end.

After nodding back into the path of Michail Antonio, the ball then fell kindly for the former Liverpool striker. But he could only blaze over from two yards out.

And the Irons were made to pay on 53 minutes thanks to a moment of magic from Wilson.

After Fraser has breezed away from Issa Diop to spark a rapid counter, his deflected cross fell to the England striker, who let the ball bounce before rifling into the top corner on the half-volley for 1-0.

The goal was Wilson’s 12th of the campaign and his sixth in six games against the Hammers.

King then almost got in on the act to double the advantage.

The former Blackburn ace shrugged off Angelo Ogbonna and Rice before being thwarted by a last-ditch challenge by Noble when he was about to pull the trigger.

Wilson then almost had his second as Cherries surged forward on the break once more.

This time King charged down the flank and teed up the Coventry-born ace, whose strike forced Fabianski to tip on to the post.

Wilson, who appeared to be carrying a knock to his knee, was then replaced by Junior Stanislas.

Cherries’ cries for a penalty fell on deaf ears 13 minutes from time.

Brooks got goal side of Ogbonna and appeared to be caught by the centre half – only for referee Hooper to wave play on.

Boruc then had a moment to forget as he shanked Adam Smith’s backpass to Javier Hernandez but the Mexican forward failed to capitalise.

And it was King who wrapped up victory for the hosts in stoppage time.

After Stanislas found Brooks on the counter, he squared for the Norwegian to tap home from close range.
