TOM Killick admitted Poole Town had a "tough lesson" to learn after their 5-2 defeat to Swindon Supermarine.

Luke Roberts had given Dolphins the lead at Black Gold Stadium before three goals in 13 first-half minutes handed the visitors the advantage.

Supermarine roared further ahead after the break when referee Adam Baker awarded a contentious penalty for a handball.

Conor McDonagh added a fifth for the Wiltshire outfit before Roberts scored his second.

Boss Killick told the Daily Echo: "We went a goal in front and looked in a very good place but that became the difficulty because we lost our focus and concentration.

"In the blink of an eye, we found ourselves 3-1 down. It was then always going to be an uphill struggle.

"If we had scored the first goal after half-time, we would have had a good chance to get something from the game. But we were the victims of a significant error by the referee for the penalty, which ended our prospects.

"Although we feel very aggrieved about the decision, we have to look at the bigger picture and our deficiencies in conceding three first-half goals.

"It is a tough lesson for us. When you are defending you cannot concentrate some of the time, you need to be disciplined for 90 minutes and that goes for the whole team."

Striker Richard Gillespie has left Poole for Southern League South rivals Dorchester Town after being given permission to speak to other clubs.

Killick was also without injured defenders Jamie Whisken and Jordan Alawode-Williams for Tuesday's defeat, while Josh Leslie-Smith was unavailable due to a university exam.

"The injuries will always put you under a bit more pressure but I am not using it to deflect away from the inadequacies of the spell where we conceded three goals," said Killick.

Dolphins: Cairney, Dickson, Smeeton, Spetch, Brooks, Boote (House, 54), Griffin, Moore, Constable (Balmer, 86), Bedford (Lowes, 65), Roberts. Unused subs: Jamieson, Hubbard.

Meanwhile, Bashley failed to reach the Southampton Senior Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 defeat against Winchester.

A first-half brace from Oli Bailey downed the Wessex Premier outfit.
