CHERRIES’ 2-0 defeat at Everton was their ninth reverse in 12 Premier League games.

It has been a grim run of results for the Dorset club, with injury issues and games against high-flying opposition crammed into a hectic period.

This combined to produce seven points in two and a half months.

Of course, the dip in form was addressed by boss Eddie Howe, who admitted: “When you don’t win, confidence becomes an issue.”

But Cherries still have reason to stay upbeat. They were by no means ripped apart by the Toffees at Goodison.

Howe’s men had more shots and attempts on target than the hosts and, had David Brooks’s 13th-minute effort gone in off the post, it could have been so different.

Looking at the bigger picture, in terms of points, Cherries are still better off at this stage of the season than in any of their previous Premier League campaigns.

It is staggering to think that, despite the recent torrid spell, only five points separates Howe's side from seventh.

Add to that the signings of Nathaniel Clyne – who has looked assured since coming in at full-back – and Dominic Solanke, and Cherries still have the platform to create history this season.

It is worth noting that a decade ago this week, Cherries were beaten 1-0 at Rotherham and had just seven points after 25 games in League Two, following a 17-point deduction.

Here are a selection of fans’ thoughts from the Daily Echo website after Sunday’s setback.

All very frustrating at the moment. Didn’t have much of a threat up front and definitely missed Callum (Wilson).

But you have to put your faith in Eddie. He always turns it round somehow and clearly knows his business.

As some have said, 2-0 was not a true reflection on the game. The ref was not up to it and we had chances.

Onwards to the next game – we just keep going.

Started out with some promise but ultimately fizzled out into yet another disappointing display. Powder puff in front of goal, certainly lacking that bite when Wilson's not on the pitch.

Great to see Adam Smith back, Brooks was good, as were Clyne and Fraser. For the first 30 minutes we were by far the better side.

We're still 12th and on 27 points. If anyone thinks we're in a relegation battle they need to give their heads a shake!
