CHERRIES today confirmed the departure of striker Jermain Defoe to Rangers on an 18-month loan deal, subject to international clearance.
The 36-year-old is tomorrow set to link up with the 54-time Scottish champions for their mid-season break in Tenerife.
Defoe was recruited by Cherries in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer from Sunderland.
He scored four goals in 34 appearances in all competitions in his second spell at the Dorset club.
Formerly of Tottenham, West Ham and Portsmouth, Defoe will join up with ex-England team-mate Steven Gerrard, who is manager at Ibrox.
Gerrard told the Gers website: “I’m delighted to welcome Jermain to Rangers.
"He is an exceptionally talented striker and vastly-experienced footballer who has scored goals at every club he has played for."
Defoe's Cherries contract expires in 2020, which aligns with the proposed conclusion of the loan at Rangers.
However, Cherries are believed to have the option to recall this summer or in January next year.
