WIMBORNE Town survived a fightback from Gosport Borough to boost their Southern League South survival hopes.
In front of a crowd of 450 at Cuthbury, Magpies secured a 3-2 win to give themselves the perfect start to the new year.
Toby Holmes opened the scoring early on and in the 18th minute, the highly-rated striker doubled the lead with a header.
Curtis Young appeared to have put the hosts in complete control just after the hour but a couple of Gosport goals made it a nervous finale.
Victory allowed Wimborne to extend to four games their unbeaten run, during which they have taken eight points from a possible 12.
Poole Town twice came from a goal down to share a 2-2 draw with hosts Weymouth.
Former Cherries youngster Brandon Goodship gave the Terras the lead 11 minutes in, only for Poole to swiftly equalise.
After goalkeeper Lloyd Thomas had kept out a free-kick, Jake Smeeton smashed into the net on the rebound.
Weymouth's Calvin Brooks restored the lead just short of the hour when he headed home a corner.
But substitute Jake Scrimshaw's header – his second touch of the match – ensured Dolphins secured a share of the spoils.
