POPPIES booked their place in the Bournemouth Senior Cup final after a 3-1 win over Lymington Town.

River Smith opened the scoring in the 20th minute at Victoria Park after a long throw from captain Ron Frost caused confusion in Lymington's defensive ranks.

Poppies' lead was doubled before half-time through dual-registered striker Steve Flynn, who headed into the corner of the net on his return from Wimborne Town.

Home goalkeeper Sam Jones then threw Lymington a lifeline with 15 minutes to play when he presented the ball to Pierce McNamara to slot into an empty net.

Poppies had to play the closing stages with 10 men after Chia Khider received a second yellow card but Ali Zintany secured the win after he fired home from 20 yards.

Michael Cuffie's side have to wait to discover their opponents in the Hurn Bridge final, as Hythe & Dibden and Hamworthy United are still to play the other semi-final.
