BOSS Matty Holmes insisted Wimborne Town would show “no fear” at Merthyr as they bid to improve their wretched form on the road.

Magpies have picked up just a solitary point from seven away games in Southern League South this season – the worst record of any team in the division.

And with Merthyr occupying fifth spot in the table, the Cuthbury manager believes his side is in for a stern test on Saturday at Penydarren Park (3pm).

He told the Daily Echo: “It will be hugely tough. Merthyr are a very physical side and work really hard with good quality.

“They have a mix of everything and we are going to have a tough challenge up there but with the squad and the way we have a bit of belief, we will go there with no fear.

“It can’t really be any worse, we only have one point on the road.

“Most of the games away from home we have been in the lead. If it was a 60-minute match we would most probably be in the play-offs.

“But it’s a 90-minute game and in short periods we suffer away from home. It’s something we are really working hard to look at.”

Wimborne are 16th in the division with 16 points from 15 league contests.
