POOLE Town boss Tom Killick suggested Wimborne Town should aim for the top six in Southern League South and insisted the rivalry had returned between the clubs.

Dolphins face Magpies at Cuthbury tomorrow in the second round of the Southern League Challenge Cup (7.45pm).

Poole romped to a 4-0 win when the sides met in August – their first league encounter since 2013.

However, Killick is expecting a tough test against Matty Holmes' side, who the Dolphins boss claimed had the resources to compete with the best in the division.

Killick told the Daily Echo: "The rivalry is back on for two obvious reasons. We are in the same league and that definitely enhances it. Secondly, the financial landscape at Wimborne is very different now.

"They are powerful in terms of the squad they are assembling and I am sure they are at a level, in terms of finances, where they are going to expect to be in the top six in the league.

"They are very competitive in this league and it does intensify the games when you play them. We don't ever want to lose to Wimborne if we can help it."

Holmes played down suggestions Wimborne were looking to become the non-league top dogs in Dorset.

"Poole have been established for years as the best side around," said Holmes. "It is not a case of getting one up on anybody.

"I have got a good relationship with them. I have known Tom Killick and Taffy Richardson for years – they are good people.

"Every game we play in, we want to win. This is a brilliant chance for me to look at our squad against a strong Poole side.

"We are keen to push on in this cup. If our boys do well against Poole, it gives me a few headaches about selection in the future."

Both sides are expected to make changes following their Southern League South wins on Saturday.

Christchurch's Kieran Douglas is in contention after he dual registered with Wimborne, while Steve Flynn could start his first game for the club.

Poole may hand debuts to Macedonian striker Boban Marikj, who has signed after a successful trial, and defender Brennan Camp, who has joined Cherries under-18s team-mate Jake Scrimshaw on loan at Black Gold Stadium.

Ahead of the clash, Killick admitted he had concerns over fixture congestion.

"It is not so much that it is a distraction, it is that we are already a bit behind a lot of the teams with our league fixtures," he said.

"We have got at least three more cup games to come and if we are successful in any of those, we would probably miss more league fixtures.

"The League Challenge Cup is the lesser of the three and most teams would look at it that way. I'm not saying it doesn't serve a purpose but it is not high on many teams' priorities."
