DAVID Brooks believes Cherries should have been awarded a first-half penalty against Manchester United after he was “barged” over by Luke Shaw.

Brooks was preparing to head Ryan Fraser’s cross at goal before seemingly being pushed to the ground by the England full-back.

Cherries had been leading 1-0 at the time of the incident. Referee Paul Tierney waved play on.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford earned United a 2-1 victory.

Brooks told the club website: “I thought it was a penalty. I didn’t see him coming, thought I was going to get my head on the ball and he barged me in the back.

“I’d have to look at it again but I felt like it probably was at the time.”

Defeat left Cherries pondering their first home reverse of the campaign.

“I think it was a positive performance but they have world-class players and we needed to be more ruthless in the final third,” added the former Sheffield United star.

“I had a few chances myself and we probably should have nicked something out of the game.

“The attitude and character of the boys was top-class, it was just putting away our chances against a top side. We were disappointed but we have to move on.”
