EDDIE Howe revealed his determination to steer Cherries to glory in the Carabao Cup – but warned against underestimating Norwich City.

Victory against the Canaries at Vitality Stadium tomorrow (7.45pm) would secure a quarter-final spot for only the third time in club history.

Howe revealed he would "love" to guide Cherries to their first piece of major silverware but warned against looking too far into the future.

The boss said: "Step by step, of course we would like to achieve those things but first and foremost we have to approach this game in the right way.

"All we are focused on is this match. We have done alright in the competition in the past few years and it is a competition we have enjoyed.

"We would love to go further than we have done before but then you start looking too far ahead and we just have to focus on Norwich.

"We are looking forward to the match. These are great games for us. I don't see it is a distraction at all. It is a great thing to have this game and, hopefully, we give a good performance."

Howe made 10 and nine changes, respectively, as his side saw off MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers in previous rounds of the Carabao Cup.

The rotation policy has been subject to criticism in the past but the Cherries boss has hailed the quality in his squad.

"I think the squad strength is good this season," he said.

"We have a balanced squad. If I decide to make changes, whatever number, I believe the players coming in are strong enough to perform well and we have enough quality to win the game.

"Whether we do or not, I don't know, but we have the quality to do it. I am pleased with how several players are mentally. I think they are ready to take this opportunity."

Cherries were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea at the quarter-final stage last season.

The club's only other venture to the last eight came in 2014, while Howe's side were plotting their own success in the second tier. That time it was Liverpool who ended the run.

Howe confirmed he would make changes for the Norwich clash and urged his players to seize their chance.

He said: "Every time you go out on a training pitch it is an opportunity.

"Every time you go onto a match pitch it is a bigger opportunity to make sure you leave a lasting impression on not just me, but the supporters and your team-mates, so when you do get your chance in the Premier League you are able to take the opportunity and you feel confident.

"It is a big game and we are not looking at it any other way.

"This is our third home draw in a row. We are grateful for that and, hopefully, we can make the most of that advantage."
