FREDERIK Jakobsen was delighted to deliver Pirates their title-winning heat at King’s Lynn – after fearing he may have cost his team.

The Danish ace roared to second in heat 14 with Nicolai Klindt’s third-place finish ensuring Poole won the SGB Premiership crown.

In heat four, Jakobsen had run wide on the final bend and allowed opposite number Simon Lambert past for second. But the 20-year-old’s error did not prove costly.

Jakobsen told the Daily Echo: “It was brilliant and such a relief. I looked back and Nicolai was right behind me and I was screaming inside the crash helmet.

“I made a mistake in my second heat and threw away a couple of points which could have been important so I was really happy to get it back on the last one and do it for the team.

“It could not have been any better than that.

“The last couple of heats were pretty nerve-racking because King’s Lynn started catching us up but we kept it going all right.

“Even though they had a few 5-1s, we still came back every time.”

Jakobsen, who finished sixth in the Under-21 World Championship this year, is widely regarded as a star of the future in the shale sport.
