LEWIS Cook has been named in the England under-21s squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Cherries midfielder Cook is joined by the likes of Harvey Barnes, Phil Foden and Reiss Nelson, who receive their first under-21 call-ups.

The Young Lions need just a point from their final two qualifiers to secure their place at next summer’s tournament in Italy and San Marino.

They host Andorra at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium on Thursday and then face Scotland at Tynecastle Park five days later.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd said: "We’re just one result away from qualification so that’s great credit to everyone who has been in the squad since we started the campaign last September.

"Although one point from two games doesn’t sound very much, I won’t be satisfied until it’s done and we’ve put in a performance which warrants the talent we’ve got on the pitch.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been called up by England under-20s having recovered from a thumb injury.

The former Sheffield United stopper has no game time under his belt this campaign and did not play in pre-season either due to the problem.

Ramsdale and co face Italy on Thursday and the Czech Republic four days later, both games being Elite League fixtures.
