TOM Killick watched Poole Town destroy Farnborough 6-0 before admitting he hoped his side got the credit they deserved.

A 34-minute hat-trick from loan striker Korrey Henry – his first goals for the club – and efforts from Luke Roberts, Jez Bedford and Richard Gillespie wrapped up an easy home win in Southern League South.

The victory elevated Dolphins to eighth in the standings and boss Killick told the Daily Echo: “It was one of those games where perhaps we won’t get the credit we deserve because people will say Farnborough weren’t a very good side.

“Although it looked that way at the end, given the way they started and some of the players they had in their line-up, I feel that would be unfair on my players.

“Farnborough were well beaten and, without being harsh, they gave up a bit towards the end. But they are a strong side and their results to date would emphasise that.

“It’s a very positive result and a very positive performance and I hope everyone sees it in that light.”

There was concern for Killick, however, when defender Will Spetch was forced off at half-time having picked up a knee injury.

“It’s worrying. We have to keep everything crossed,” said Killick.

“He hyperextended his knee and it didn’t look very good. He is in a lot of discomfort now. We just hope it’s positive news.”

Prior to kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed out of respect for former Hamworthy United goalkeeping coach Ben Scott, who had died days earlier.

Poole had an early escape when Farnborough striker Perry Coles struck a post but midway through the first half, the hosts took control.

Jordan Alawode-Williams’s barnstorming run into the box was halted by Adam Pepera and Henry sent keeper Sam Mason the wrong way from the spot.

Henry doubled the lead when he bulldozed aside Nathaniel Oseni and finished calmly at the second attempt after Mason had saved his initial effort.

Following the restart, substitute  Sam Griffin – deployed at left-back having replaced Spetch – won a penalty when he was chopped down by Michael Atkinson. Henry completed his hat-trick by hammering low into the right corner.

Roberts slotted number four and 14 minutes from time, Bedford crashed a dipping effort into the net from outside the box.

There was still time for substitute Gillespie to poke through Mason’s legs after he had been released by Marvin Brooks.

Discussing Henry’s display, Killick said: “He is an absolute powerhouse. The Farnborough players were bouncing off him – literally.

“It was so refreshing to see the referee allow play to go on after Korrey had outmuscled the defender before scoring his second goal. An awful lot of referees would have blown up.

“It was a beautiful goal from a centre-forward’s perspective. I know he didn’t finish it with the aplomb he would have liked but to power past the defender like that was very good to see.”
