AFC Burton last night became the first Hayward Saturday League team to get the better of Wessex League opposition in the Bournemouth Saturday Senior Cup when they produced an outstanding team performance to subdue Ringwood Town 3-1.

Levi Ridealgh latched on to Dan Seymour’s superb through ball to put Burton ahead after 36 minutes but they suffered a setback when Jamie Trimble saw red 10 minutes into the second half following a second caution.

But the visitors to Long Lane doubled their lead two minutes later thanks to Sam Nash's finely-taken goal.

Ringwood halved the deficit in the 75th minute when Lee Vint squeezed an effort just inside the post but their hopes of getting on terms were dashed when Burton broke away down the left four minutes from time and Ridealgh’s cross was steered in by Nash.

Poppies claimed their second penalty shootout victory in this season’s Hampshire Senior Cup to dump out Gosport Borough in the second round.

Mickey Finch’s dramatic late equaliser saved the day for Poppies at Victoria Park after Manny Ohameje had netted their opener in the 17th minute.

Having beaten Bashley on penalties to set up the tie, Poppies repeated the feat against Southern League Gosport, their 5-3 win booking them a place in the third round.

Christchurch were beaten 2-0 by Southampton at Hurn Bridge with goals either side of half-time from Will Ferry and Jonathan Afolabi ending Priory’s involvement in the competition.

Sam Burt bagged the only goal for Alresford Town as they chalked up a narrow victory to see off Verwood Town in an FA Vase second qualifying round replay.

In Sydenhams Wessex Premier, Sam House’s header for Lymington on 28 minutes was cancelled out by Sean Colohan’s last-gasp equaliser for Shaftesbury.
