CHRISTER Warren couldn't praise his players enough after they did everything he asked against much-fancied AFC Totton - except score.

Warren thought his side "absolutely battered" the opposition in Saturday's game, only for Totton to steal the points with virtually their only effort on target.

Wimborne rattled the woodwork on numerous occasions before their day was summed up when player-manager Warren missed a late penalty.

"I couldn't have asked more from the lads. We were superb from start to finish," Warren told the Daily Echo.

"To have as many chances as we did - we must have hit the woodwork three or four times - I just thought it was one of those days, it just wouldn't go in."

Warren was delighted with the performance of his team and he thinks more of the same will see them succeed this season.

He said: "If we show that commitment and desire we won't be too far away. I was proud of every single one of them.

"I personally think it was our best performance of the season bar the finishing side of it.

"We did a tally and we had 30 shots at their goal, so we must be doing something right.

"We've scored a lot of goals and put chances away (this season) but you'll get days like that when you don't get what you deserve."

Despite dominating them, Warren thinks Totton will be right up there at the business end of things come the end of the season.

He said: "They're a really good team. That's the pleasing thing, we've battered them and caused them a lot of problems.

"For them to not play well and come away with three points is pleasing for them. They're not firing on all cyclinders yet."
